Global Web Finishing engineers are well experienced with the high speed web, variable data inkjet printing applications taking place at so many high volume direct mail producers.
GWF staff understands that each situation with inkjet is especially unique to each printer, the customers they serve and the physical arrangements of their current or future web finishing systems.
GWF engineers have previously built no less than six distinct and customized versions of inkjet towers per customer request. Like the entire scope of our product offerings, GWF offers standard product designs for fixed location “simplex” and “duplex” machines, as well as a clever layout for portable units both in “simplex” and “duplex” versions, that include a clean plan for future rail expandability.
In either the fixed location or portable versions, GWF inkjet tower designs incorporate advanced multi zone IR dryers as completely integrated high performance systems that can include a variety of options such as driven or non-driven chill roll sections and web pre-heaters and motorized bucket movements.
Early on in our business, Global Web Finishing was honored to be chosen as the supplier to build an “8 over 8”, 16 rail “duplex” inkjet tower for the first high volume direct mail printer in the world using the new Kodak s10 “prosper” print system for variable 4 color process inkjet.
This particular GWF partner is a world leader in the highest levels of creative direct response print marketing and manufacturing, and is leading GWF design of this machine. As a matter of fact, they happen to be responsible for the origins of this base inkjet tower design from years ago.
Standard features for portable GWF “simplex” inkjet towers include:
- Heavy duty design with 1.5” solid aluminum frames for perfect registration stability and accuracy
- Low profile design with integrated IR dryer
- Draw roller with pneumatic nip trolley assemblies and control box
- Independent drive, motor and keypad control for variable speed of draw roller for web stability and tension control
- Modular design allows future expansion to four consecutive rail system and future expandable to "Duplex" without use of angle bars to flop web between units
- Two rail design housing three across print head mounts
- Two rail slide out "trays" for convenient print head servicing
- Overhead umbilical trays for fluid and data cable runs from print heads to control centers
- Zero backlash direct coupled encoder tach roller for print head supplied encoder interface to imaging queue controller
- Scanner bar mount prepared for imaging scanner by print head supplier
- "Standard" encoder mount on press for draw roller speed following
- Unit is completely portable and can be located to any predetermined location
- Unit includes floor mount docking
- Edge guide system for lateral web to print head registration
- Multi stage/multi zone IR dryer for high speed 1000fpm drying
- Press control station
Options for portable GWF “simplex” inkjet towers can include:
- Independently motorized sidelay control for each bucket position
- (2) large diameter water/fan cooled web driven chill rolls
- Expandable for additional rails and/or “duplex” print application
- Additional rails and/or bucket mounts on existing rails
- Adapter plates to 4.25” buckets to accommodate 1”, 2” and 9” print heads
