Global Web Finishing pattern perforators are available in a variety of styles and designs based on specific need. Perforating is elemental to so many finished print production needs that not many web presses are without. Print formats popular to perforator use are coupons, reply cards, stamps, etc.
GWF pattern perforators are also used for pattern scoring and pattern slitting for items such as punch out circles later inserted into slits, etc., although it should be reminded that a perforator can in no way do the work of a steel to steel die cutter.
GWF pattern perforators are elemental designs typically using two cylinders for direct print to image. The plate cylinder uses a reel rod lock up to secure an offset print plate, in which “litho perf” material is adhered in register with the print image. The litho perf penetrates through the paper and into an impression cylinder. The impression cylinder uses a reel rod to hold a standard offset blanket as a relatively soft and forgiving back (impression) cylinder.
GWF pattern perforators also include a hardened, driven draw roller at the exit of the main cylinders. Pneumatically loaded trolleys are provided for continuous perf, slit or scoring here in the web direction.
GWF perforators are always located post chills on the press centerline to allow perforation delivery into folders, sheeters and inline finishing systems. Perfs are typically installed fixed location for dedicated high speed production. Fixed location allows heavier designs including double around circumference or three cylinder designs as there is no advantage to portability. |

Standard features for GWF pattern perforators include:
- 2” – 3” (51mm-76mm) solid steel side frames
- Heavy duty eccentric design for impression control functions
- “ON/OFF/AUTO” electro-pneumatic select impression functions
- Running adjustment for all cylinder to cylinder impression settings
- Independent drive motor system with HMI touch screen
- Side gears in oil bath for cylinder to cylinder drive eliminates registration errors from undesirable “serpentine” timing belts
- Reel rod lock up for plates and blankets
- Web detection monitored for cylinder damage control
- Remote control at press delivery for all electro-pneumatic functions
Options for GWF pattern perforators can include:
- Double circumference design based on speed requirements and machine width
- Three cylinder design using two plate cylinders to separate lateral and horizontal perforations on specialized or intensive formats
- Perf “crusher” system allowing flattened sheeter pile stacking
- Magnetic plate cylinder for quicker make ready
