The term prefolder is a very encompassing term for any (press O.E.M. aftermarket) ribbon creating and positioning and/or parallel to web direction folding sequence prior to final cutoff and delivery of (most often) a press O.E.M. folder.
Global Web Finishing staff has as much experience as anyone in this market and sees prefolders as a great value add to many commercial, insert and publication presses. The product format opportunities from prefolders are huge - and for the limited investment cost, can’t be beat.
From a basic standpoint, GWF realizes that prefolders are looked at sometimes as a commodity purchase since nearly everyone who builds new web finishing machinery supplies prefolders. GWF’s clear advantage, however, is different.
First, GWF will quote a new or pre-owned machine, going as far as locating and supplying a pre-owned machine (when available) in a fully re-engineered condition as requested for often significant savings against new.

Standard features for GWF prefolders include:
- Heavy gauge solid side frames, cross spreaders and supports
- Chrome plated angle bars with motorized sidelay control
- Rotary style plow folders with necessary support rollers
- Motorized compensator for ribbon to ribbon registration control
- Driven draw rollers at both entry and exit sides of plow fold machines
- Pneumatic loaded nip trolleys on all driven draw rollers
- Hardened driven draw rollers at all crush slit locations
- Pneumatic loaded slitter trolleys on designated roller locations
- Independent drive motor system with HMI touch screen
- Each plow fold position includes two-stream plow fold assemblies
- Plow fold geometry will allow entire web width folded in half
- Adjustable fold hold rollers for proper fold creasing and stability
- All path rollers necessary to complete web paths in and out of machines
- Standard support structure on press for safe, rigid installation
Options for GWF prefolders can include:
- Two additional plow folder options including stationary “cone/shoe” type plows or “geometric/angle bar” type plow folders.
- Motorized plow folders in two or three streams
- Large 4” (101mm) diameter chrome plated angle bars with internal air shut off valve design
